American Eagle, is the first of an ambitious plan to build 12 American-flagged coastal cruise ships. The 100-guest American Cruise Lines catamaran passed sea trials with flying colors and was delivered on schedule by Chesapeake Shipbuilding, which is already building four more for delivery in late 2023 and 2024. Eventually the line plans to have a fleet of 12 cruising on American rivers and coasts.
American Eagle is in Massachusetts to begin a series of eight-day Cape Cod itineraries round-trip from Boston that visit Martha’s Vineyard, Provincetown, Gloucester and Newport.
The ships are designed to blend the luxury of river cruising with the access and adventure of expedition cruising, the company says. “American Eagle embodies our continued commitment to building new small ships to explore America’s rivers and coasts,” said Charles B. Robertson, president & CEO of American Cruise Lines. “American Eagle and her sister ships will change the landscape of possibilities for small ship adventures around the U.S.A.”
Introduced just a few months after American Serenade, the company’s sixth new riverboat, American Eagle accommodates 100 guests. It features four decks and showcases a new catamaran bow. The private balcony accommodations, include spacious single and double-occupancy staterooms as well as suites. American Eagle also offers comfortable lounges both inside and out, a main restaurant, casual café, and fitness center. A sister ship, American Glory is due to launch in November.
