Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will hold the naming ceremony for the HANSEATIC inspiration— its expedition ship geared for the English-speaking market–in the Belgian port city of Antwerp. It’s the first time in the city’s history that an ocean-going cruise ship has been christened there.
It’s the second expedition ship Hamburg-based Hapag-Lloyd will be putting into service next year. The naming ceremony for HANSEATIC nature – the sister ship of the HANSEATIC inspiration – will be held in Hamburg on April 12, 2019. The two small, manoeuvrable expedition ships are designed to get as close to nature as possible and are built with state-of-the-art equipment to minimise the environmental impact.
After the launch on Oct. 13, 2019 HANSEATIC inspiration will make a 15-day maiden voyage from Antwerp to Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.
Both new ships have the ice ratings of PC6, capable of cruising in first year ice. Their routes will take the ships from one extreme to the other – from cold polar waters to the warm regions like the Amazon.
