Cunard Celebrates Fashion on the High Seas

Bob Mackie original sketches will be auctioned on th Queen Mary 2 cruise-Cunard Line

Iconic fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie and Julien’s Auctions will join Cunard’Transatlantic Fashion Week voyage aboard flagship Queen Mary 2 this fall. Following Paris Fashion Week, this extraordinary journey will celebrate the world of fashion and style on the high seas.

During the seven-night Atlantic crossing departing New York on Oct. 31, guests will have an exclusive opportunity onboard to bid on a selection of Bob Mackie’s original fashion sketches, including a signed mixed medium, hand-drawn illustration featuring a full-length figure in early 20th century evening wear and turban headdress. The cape features an embellished pattern with tassels and a small train, outfitted with black evening-length gown, arm-length gloves, stacked jeweled bangles and a ring.

A signed mixed medium, hand-drawn illustration featuring a full-length figure in 1930s inspired beaded chevron patterned evening gown with deep-v neckline and a small circular train. The draped cape extending from the shoulder straps emphasizes the Old Hollywood screen siren charm of the decade.

Guests will also have a chance to preview Mackie’s acclaimed designs – worn by Cher, Tina Turner and Carol Burnett – which will be featured in Julien’s Bold Luxury Auction: Bob Mackie, Stage Glamour & The Couture Edit, open for bidding on Juliensauctions.com from Oct. 27 through Dec. 3. The daily rotating exhibit on Queen Mary 2 will showcase celebrity costumes, including a custom nude-illusion iridescent halter-neck costume for a Cher Special that aired in 1978 and a bodysuit with fringe skirt, embellished with rhinestones and sequins in a flame motif, worn by Tina Turner in 1977.

Bob Mackie is a globally celebrated American fashion and costume designer known for his dazzling, theatrical creations worn by some of the most iconic figures in entertainment. Over his decades-long career, Mackie has dressed stars such as Cher, Diana Ross, Carol Burnett, Zendaya and Madonna, and has earned nine Emmy Awards and three Academy Award nominations.

In addition to the preview and auction, the voyage will offer a lineup of curated programming, including a Q&A session with Bob Mackie; Darren Julien, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions; and Martin Nolan, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, offering behind-the-scenes stories from the world of celebrity fashion and collecting. And a special screening of Mackie’s new documentary “Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion,” with an intro to the program by the designer himself.

Also featured during Transatlantic Fashion Week will be trailblazing designer Christian Siriano, who will present his first runway show at sea, showcasing pieces in a spectacular onboard event. International supermodel Coco Rocha will also participate in the Crossing with her very first Coco Rocha Model Camp at sea.
