MSC Cruises claims that even though the new ships it has on order are among the largest ever built, they will be able to fit into most existing ports. The contract signed with Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard for two ships that will accommodate up to 5,300 passengers and there is an option for a third ship with the same innovative design. Unlike the large Oasis-class ships of Royal Caribbean, these ships will have a promenade that rings the ship on a lower deck. The new ships will be “revolutionary in their structure, unlike anything that exists on the market today,’ said MSC executive chairman Pierfrancesco Vago. The first one won’t enter service until November 2017, but the order indicates the market for huge ships is far from saturated.
