In a sign that China is growing in importance to the cruise industry, Royal Caribbean’s fifth Oasis Class ship will make Shanghai, China its home starting in 2021.

Wonder of the Seas will be Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s biggest yet, with a capacity for over 6,000 guests. Wonder of the Seas will introduce a new era of cruising, said Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley at a cruise industry conference held in Shanghai.

“Royal Caribbean is known for its innovation and constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, and an Oasis Class ship in China is proof of that,” Bayley said. “Wonder of the Seas will redefine the ultimate vacation and be revolutionary in her own right, and she marks one of Royal Caribbean’s most exciting chapters to come.”

The new ship, being built in France, will combine the seven-neighbourhood concept that Royal Caribbean’s other Oasis Class ships boast. These include vast swimming pools, zip lines, waterparks, bars with robot bartenders, imaginative dining and an entertainment district with full-length Broadway shows.

More information on Wonder’s itineraries and brand-new adventures will be announced soon, Royal Caribbean promises.
