It may be a shocker to passengers used to seeing the newest ships cater to the U.S. market, but Royal Caribbean International sees a way to cash in on a trend by making Shanghai its home port for the new Quantum of the Seas. “Every trend we are seeing in China tells us we can achieve real long-term competitive advantage and appealing returns on our investments in this fast-growing market by accelerating our presence there,” says Adam Goldstein, Royal Caribbean’s President and COO. After its christening in November, Quantum will spend the winter sailing from Cape Liberty in New Jersey to the Caribbean. Beginning in June, 2015, the ship will sail three- to eight-night itineraries year-round from Shanghai to Japan and Korea.
