Paying homage to the age of tall ships, with more than 44,000 square feet of sails that are unfurled by hand, the new 136-guest Sea Cloud Spirit combines a romantic windjammer atmosphere with the most modern comforts.
The newly built three-masted ship follows the role model of her two classic wind-jammer sisters, the Sea Cloud and the Sea Cloud II while offering a generous number of cabins with balconies.
Sea Cloud Cruises is deploying Sea Cloud Spirit, in the Caribbean, and Central America starting with cruises from St. Maarten in late 2023 and transits of the Panama Canal, exploring Costa Rica, Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in the winter. The ship will sail trans-Atlantic for cruises in the Canary Islands in the spring of 2024.
“Sea Cloud Spirit was meticulously designed to pay homage to the original Sea Cloud, celebrating an era of luxurious glamor in travel and with all the modern comforts today’s discerning travelers desire.” said Mirell Reyes, president of Sea Cloud Cruises. “We look forward to the Sea Cloud Spirit soon arriving in St. Maarten to welcome her guests for the winter sailing season, exploring these treasured regions with masterfully crafted itineraries following the trade winds and away from the busy cruise routes.”
Two special guests for early 2024 sailings will be Chef Cindy Hutson of Coral Gables favorite Ortanique aboard the Costa Rica to Panama City Feb. 5-16 sailing, and New York Times best-selling author Les Standiford, who will be the featured historian on a special Miami roundtrip itinerary March 3-12 exploring Florida and the Bahamas.
Each voyage will feature no more than 136 guests onboard and include cooking demonstrations, curated menus, lectures and storytelling underneath the Sea Cloud Spirit’s 28 hand-hoisted sails.
The ship that entered service in 2021 features an extensive sun deck with sunbeds, a fitness center with panoramic views and spa and wellness area, as well as the option to choose between an elegant menu in the restaurant and a relaxed dinner in the bistro on the lido deck or cocktail in the lounge featuring a Steinway grand piano.
