Silversea Cruises, christened Silver Origin with an expedition-themed ceremony in the Galápagos Islands.
The long-awaited ship that is purpose built for sustainably exploring the unique islands off the coast of Ecuador was named by its Godmother, Johanna Carrión, esteemed conservationist and permanent resident of the Galápagos Islands.
Guests took to the water on Silver Origin’s Zodiacs, raising glasses of Champagne as Silversea officially welcomed the ship as the tenth in its fleet.
A tradition of Royal Caribbean Group, a bagpipe performance initiated the intimate naming ceremony, which marked Jason Liberty’s first ship christening as the new President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.
“It was a very proud moment to officially welcome Silver Origin to our fleet,” said Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s president and CEO. “Beyond just visiting the most beautiful corners of our planet, Silversea aims to enrich each destination. This is especially true in the Galápagos Islands. Silver Origin is our strongest means to inspire travelers to safeguard the wellbeing of this beautiful archipelago for future generations.”
Silver Origin sails on two alternating itineraries that incorporate five maiden calls, including the lush island of Santa Fe. Each itinerary will include calls in the islands of Fernandina and Isabela—regularly described as the region’s must-visit destinations—and will each include enriched programs ashore.
“Our two new itineraries have been thoughtfully crafted by our destination experts to optimize the cruise experience in this extraordinary part of the world, providing more opportunities for guests to admire the archipelago’s iconic wildlife species, including the Galápagos penguin, green sea turtles, endemic land and marine iguanas, whitetip reef sharks, Galápagos sea lions, and many remarkable bird species,” says Fernando Delgado, vice-president and general manager of Silversea Cruises Ecuador.
The all-suite, all-balcony, 100-guest Silver Origin is specifically designed for ecology-friendly Galapagos cruising and will sail year-round. The all-inclusive fares include air flights, two pre-cruise nights in Quito and one post cruise in Guayaquil; butler service suite on board with dining in multiple restaurants, all beverages and gratuities as well as tours led by expedition experts.
Full vaccinations will be mandatory for guests and crew, forming part of a comprehensive, multi-layered set of science-backed protocols that will help to safeguard the health and safety of guests, crew, and visited communities, the company says.
