A delay in delivery means Explora Journeys‘ second ship won’t be ready to cruise until September, meaning five planned cruises are being cancelled.
The 920-guests ship was slated to start sailing between Barcelona and Civitavecchia for Rome in August, but the new delivery date is Sept. 12.
“After careful and detailed reviews of Explora II, it was decided that more time is needed for the final finishes to the ship to guarantee the highest quality luxury standards and to ensure that the new ship delivers to the fullest on the brand’s promise of an unmatched luxury ocean experience,” Explora’s owner MSC Group said in a statement. Explora Journeys is contacting booked passengers to arrange an alternative journey on Explora II or Explora I, which is also sailing in the Mediterranean.
Explora II is scheduled to spend the balance of its time in the Western Mediterranean with visits to yachting destinations such as Portofino, Porto Cervo, Saint-Tropez, Calvi, Mahon and Monte Carlo.
In late October it does a trans-Atlantic to Miami to begin a Caribbean season with cruises from Mami, San Juan and Bridgetown.
