As part of a lengthening of a trio of sister ships,  Windstar Cruises plans to add  casual outdoor restaurants in partnership with global grilling authority Steven Raichlen.

The Star Grill by Steven Raichlen will serve grilled, smoked and rotisserie specialties, including seafood, meats and vegetables cooked with global flavors and techniques, along with craft side dishes and sauces.

The restaurant will debut on Star Breeze in February 2020 and then on her sister ships Star Legend in July 2020 and Star Pride in November 2020, all part of the line’s $250-million Star Plus Initiative.

Dishes will include seafood, lamb and  beef  from the grill, smoker and rotisserie, along with innovative sauces. The top-deck, alfresco restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, featuring menu items such as Danish smoked shrimp, lemongrass pork skewers and Hill Country brisket. On sea days, the venue will offer mid-morning Frühschoppen with artisanal grilled sausage and pretzel rolls.

“Our new partnership is a wonderful alliance that will provide our guests with an inviting new place to dine that is entirely suited to Windstar’s casually elegant style of cruising,” said Windstar president John Delaney.

TV host and author of 31 books, Raichlen is considered to have reinvented modern barbecue. His most recent television series, Project Fire 2019, debuted in July on PBS, and his latest book, The Brisket Chronicles, was released to critical acclaim in May. Raichlen was inducted into the Barbecue Hall of Fame in 2015, and his books have won multiple James Beard Awards and IACP Julia Child Awards.

Located adjacent to the Star Bar, the open, ocean-view top-deck bar, Star Grill by Steven Raichlen will have deck-side seating for 95 and two carving stations.

In addition to a selection of beer and wine, the restaurant will feature cocktails designed for the venue with a breezy summertime vibe, like a Strawberry Pimm’s, and Pineapple & Coconut Slushy.

The Star Plus revitalization of the trio of  ships will also bring an eclectic Spanish restaurant from chef Anthony Sasso, an enhanced spa and fitness center.

The  Star Plus Initiative is the most complex and comprehensive small ship lengthening, engine replacement, and renovation project undertaken in cruising. Windstar is transforming its Star-class ships – Star Breeze, Star Legend, and Star Pride – and renovating each ship in succession

Star Breeze is the first Windstar ship to emerge from the Star Plus transformation, sailing from Barcelona to Lisbon on February 20, 2020, and celebrating re-inaugural activities in North America at the Port of Miami on March 19, 2020.

Star Legend will complete her transformation in late June and debut in Barcelona on July 2, 2020.  Star Pride, emerges from the shipyard in fall of 2020, with her first cruise sailing from Barcelona on November 20, 2020.
