Atlas Adds Shortcut Expeditions to Antarctica

Zodiac tour from Atlas ship in Antarctica --Atlas Ocean Voyages

Two new seven-night Antarctic expeditions are being added to the winter season of Atlas Ocean Voyages as it adds a third ship to its fleet.

The shorter voyages departing Dec. 9 and 19 on the World Voyager bypass the Drake Passage by flying guests to King George Island on the Antarctic peninsula to join the ship midway through a 14-night round trip from Ushuaia, Argentina.

The featured Drake Fly & Sail Expeditions include a complimentary pre-hotel stay in Buenos Aires, a one-way private charter jet service from Buenos Aires, a one-way return air service to Punta Arenas, and a one-night post-hotel stay in Punta Arenas.

For more intrepid travelers, two longer 14-night expeditions bookend the season with visits to South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands, or the Falkland Islands.

Other newly added cruises on World Navigator are an Antarctic Adventurer Expedition in November that sails roundtrip Ushuaia and a Wild Falklands and Argentina Expedition in March that plans calls in the East and West Falkland Islands and visits South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. Both include private charter jet service from Buenos Aires and a one-night pre-cruise hotel stay.

Guests on Antarctic expeditions will explore breathtaking destinations such as Neko Harbour, Deception Island’s caldera, and Brown Bluff at the peninsula’s northern tip. Crossing into the Antarctic Circle, they will have the opportunity to spot diverse marine wildlife, including several species of penguins, seals, and whales. The yachts’ unique Water’s Edge observation deck, featuring wrap-around heated benches, allows guests to observe Antarctic marine wildlife from a vantage point close to the waterline.

The company has chartered a private jet to transport guests directly from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia and includes a pre-night hotel stay in Buenos Aires the night before the embarkation.

All expeditions to Antarctica include Emergency Medical Evacuation and Return-to-Home travel protection. The comprehensive travel insurance covers emergency medical transportation from the yacht to a local treatment center or a return home as medically required. A limited-time promotional air credit of up to $5,000 per suite and $3,500 per stateroom is offered for new reservations through Sept. 30, 2023.
